Tummy Tuck with Abdominal Hernia Repair

Dr. Bafitis has been lecturing about the BILA procedure nationally, recently visiting the University of Colorado to do a demonstration for general surgeons and plastic surgeons.

(BILA) Bafitis Integrated Lipo-abdominoplasty Dr. Bafitis has pioneered a technique for jointly repairing significant abdominal hernias done through a low abdominoplasty incision and correcting the loose tissue as well as performing circumferential abdominal liposuction.  This technique called Bafitis Integrated Lipo-abdominoplasty is married to component separation surgery.

Bafitis first presented the integrated lipo-abdominoplasty approach at the University of St. Louis in the cadaver lab to over 50 cosmetic surgeons last year.

He has also been a keynote speaker concerning the integrated lipo-abdominoplasty technique that he has developed and refined – a now hallmark of any plastic surgeon’s repertoire.

A good portion of the surgery can be covered on insurance if- in fact, there are hernias present.

Dr. Bafitis is excited to share this technique and has had the opportunity to work on patients from all over the country who have undergone the BILA with component separation.  Downtime is usually no more than seven to ten days, and people are usually walking upright within three days.

“This new marriage of hernia repair as well as abdominoplasty and liposuction truly speaks to all areas of the abdominal wall and truly incorporates a physiologic approach to abdominal wall reconstruction.” –Dr. Harold Bafitis

The Component Separation Technique

The component separation technique is a physiologic way of improving layers of the abdomen. Dr. Bafitis incorporates the use of an acellular matrix, which is essentially an absorbent mesh collagen framework with extracellular matrix products to help your own cells grow. This collagen mesh framework is not permanent in the body, but rather, goes away and creates new tissue to be incorporated into your body… by your own body.

The use of these techniques with the component separation has not been described with an abdominoplasty approach.  Utilizing Dr. Bafitis’ Integrated Lipo-abdominoplasty, liposuction can be safely performed on all layers of the abdomen inclusive of the back and area about the mid back where the “bra strap fat” seems to gather.

Furthermore, significant laxity in the abdomen can now be corrected by this component separation technique, which adds essentially no significant effect on recovery time than traditional abdominoplasty. View before after photos of the Bafitis Integrated Lipo-abdominoplasty (BILA)

The results are tremendously improved over standard abdominoplasty and create an almost “unbelievable” look within three months post operatively.
